All you need to know for your newborn session
Please feel free to ask any questions by contacting me directly. However, I have created this section to provide you with as much information as possible to prepare you for your session.
Planning for your session - you can start today!
Newborns are most flexible and sleep most deeply during the first 2 weeks of their lives. It is best to book your session well before you have your baby, so that I can fit you in the calendar when he/she finally arrives. When the baby has been born, let me know as soon as possbile so we can set a date for the session.
Newborn sessions are a lot of fun, but can take a long time - much of that is spent getting them in the right position to show off their beautiful skin and precious features. It can also take a while to get baby soundly asleep, but there are things you can do to make your session go smoothly:
1) Have you looked through and filled in a pre-session questionnaire? (style, seen my work, date, time of day to call)
2) Advice for the day before the session, and on the actual day
3) Know what to expect from the session
4) Safety and Studio policies
1. Pre-session questionnaire
Lighting and the props I use have to be just right to fit with your individuality. The more you can tell me in advance, the better prepared and more creative I can be.
2. Preparation - feeding and what to bring
For baby:
- Dress them in soft, loose clothing
- Bring plenty of spare clothes and nappies as there are bound to be some accidents!
- Bring along anything that is really special, such as a family heirloom (perhaps a bracelet, a ring or a teddy)
For Mum:
- If at all possible, come in a strapless bra - nude or white. Bring a simple tank top/vest, and a couple of long sleeve options (cardigan or blouse).
- Avoid patterns and bright colours
- Go for soft tones or earthy colours (blues, browns, muted greens or neutrals)
For Dad:
- Soft tones or earthy colours (blues, browns, muted greens or neutrals)
- Bring a black or dark shirt if you have one
- Avoid stripes unless they are muted (for instance a soft blue or coral)
- Avoid bold colours, labels or patterns
- Try to go for similar colours and tones as mum
Siblings:
- As above
- Complimentary colours to Mum and Dad's tops - such as blues and browns together
